My Favorite Books & Devos for the Grieving Heart
One of the top questions I get asked from people are books or devotional recommendations for a loved one who is grieving. Grieving doesn’t only apply to someone who has lost a loved one. It could be someone going through a divorce, infertility, loss of identity, drowning in parenthood, losing a friendship, and so much more.
My top three favorite books that I have read and have personally helped me in my own grief journey are:
A Grace Disguised by Jerry Sittser is probably my #1 recommendation for a grieving heart. Jerry shares his story of losing his wife, mother, and some children in a car accident and his journey to redemption is truly powerful.
You Are Never Alone by Max Lucado is a powerful reminder that God has never left your side and you are NEVER without hope in this life.
Lemons On Friday by Mattie Jackson is great specifically for young widows, since she was one herself. She shares her raw journey and reminds us that the God of all comfort can bring peace no matter where you are in life.
My top three favorite devotionals that I have read and have personally helped me in my own grief journey are:
I ALWAYS recommend all 3 of these to anyone who asks me!
Seeing Beautiful Again is a quick daily read with powerful implications.
New Morning Mercies is one that I can do year after year. It’s only a page each day and it gives you verses to dive into your Bible deeper if you want to.
Pain to Purpose is a little bit longer and has reflection questions at the end, but this was probably the most powerful devotional that really got me thinking and learning so much more about who are God is.
I hope this is helpful and everyone has a safe and happy New Year!
As always, thanks for being here with me!
